Renting an aircraft in Florida is only a little more difficult than renting a car....and you don’t get the hard sell to upgrade!
Going on a flying safari for a couple of weeks around Florida, The Keys and even taking in the Bahamas is possible. This takes a degree of preparation and forward planning. There are usually a minimum required daily usage of the aircraft (usually 3-4 hrs)
Within easy reach of our villas are airfields where your choice of aircraft can be rented from friendly training organisations who will guide you through obtaining an FAA licence on the basis of your current licence, ensure that you have the knowledge of the local regulations and quirks in the local RT to undertake day trips away safely and comfortably.
Obtaining an FAA licence on the basis of your own licence to fly solo in the USA is still an easy process, provided you plan sufficiently ahead.
If you haven’t planned ahead or don’t feel comfortable with the local RT, maps or regulations you can still hire a safety pilot cheaply, who will let you undertake as much or little of the flying etc as you feel comfortable with and is a great guide for where to go for the “$100 buck hamburger”.
With day tripping , there is usually no minimum hours to be taken, the logistics of transport and accommodation are not an issue and overnighters (eg to Cedar Key) can be integrated into the renters schedule.
Florida has a huge selection of airfields (over 250) to choose from for day tripping.
